Call for Papers

Career and Technical Education, Workforce Training, Technology Education

 The Grand Chapter of Iota Lambda Sigma, professional honor society in workforce development, is proud to announce the Journal for Workforce Education (JWEd). The JWEd Editorial Board is inviting manuscripts on the theme of Career and Technical Education, Workforce Training, and Technology Education to be published in its upcoming issue. This issue will focus on the central issues of developing a workforce that prepares the nation to compete in today’s competitive world market.  Much has been happening in this area.  Two federal laws have set the tone for workforce training and education programs. The Workforce Investment Act reformed Federal job training programs and created a new, comprehensive workforce investment system. The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act was passed with the hope that it will help close the gap that threatens America’s long-term competitiveness.  Most states have opened Workforce Development Offices and community colleges have added workforce development support systems.  It is now time to review programs that have been undertaken and to share the implications on the basis of recent research. 

Accordingly, the editor, Dave Netherton, is calling for manuscript abstracts on these subjects.  Papers may be based on qualitative case studies, quantitative data or both.  Other thoughtful types of papers such as reviews will also be welcome (please see the accompanying editorial policy for complete guidelines). 

An extended abstract of no more than 500 words should be sent to Dave Netherton at dnethert@odu.edu. He will inform authors whether their abstracts have been accepted by the date posted on the home page of this Web site. Abstracts should clearly outline : 

  1. The main purpose of the proposed paper
  2. The main theme and content
  3. The research design and methodology where relevant
  4. The intended contribution and relevance to debates on assessment – based qualifications, assessment and/or training.  

An attachment to the abstract should include the name and full contact details of the author to whom correspondence should be addressed. An email address would be acceptable. 

Authors of abstracts which are not accepted for this issue will be entitled to submit their papers to JWEd for subsequent issues. Invited full papers will be required for refereeing by independent reviewers.  

The  Iota Lambda Sigma Journal for Workforce Education, an official publication of Iota Lambda Sigma, an Honorary Professional Society in Workforce Development, is published  two  times a year.  The purpose of the Journal is to stimulate research and development and the creation of new knowledge and ideas related to workforce education and training.  Through the dissemination of this new knowledge and ideas to the public it is hoped that it will result in improved efficiency and effectiveness of individual and group productivity and quality.
